Services
Time to get down to the nitty gritty. Let's face it, sometimes understanding editor lingo harder than scrubbing craft glitter off of your palms. I'm right here to walk your stylish shoes through each service & what it means. After reading a 2,000 word sample that you will submit to me prior to payment discussions, I'll be more equipped to work with you to customize a package of what will best spruce up your work.
*Proofreading: AKA, the basics: A check of basic grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, typos, and syntax.
*Copyediting: This is a step up from proofreading, involving a few more technicalities: Proofreading + Fact or reference checking+ Tense & Point of View (POV) Consistency+Voice Consistency.
*Substantive/Content Editing: It is what is sounds like it is. On top of everything else, I'll be editing the true substance or content of your work: Proofreading+ Copyediting+ style + pacing + consistency+ transitions+ character development+ plot hole check+ plot believability.
These first three services would include your manuscript w/ my tracked changes & notes + a short report regarding my thoughts on the piece.
*Manuscript Evaluating/ Beta Reading: This is what can loosely be called a developmental edit. It's story content checking without the intensive work of copy or substantive editing. I'd keep notes as I read, and as a final product deliver a several-page, detailed report to you mapping out repeated tendencies or issues I see in your manuscript. I'll examine any visible plot holes, character development/likability problems, commonly confused words, muddled dialogue structure, etc.
*Blog/Web Content Editing: I focus on the novel, but I would be more than happy to proofread your website's content for any spelling, grammar, punctuation, or syntax mistakes.
*Resume Editing: Looking for work? Want to add power to your job experience statements? Want to get hired? I'd be more than happy to proofread your resume and suggest some improvements.
*Essay/Dissertation Editing: TBA.
*Magazine Articles
Rates
Every rate is customized because every piece of work is completely different. By sending me a 2,000-word writing sample, I can best develop a quote that will work for the both of us.
Need to Know Information
*I'm a family friendly kind of girl. Please, if you're approaching me about editing a novel manuscript, read this first. I prefer to avoid material that is sexually explicit or labeled as erotica. Anything beyond a PG-13 level I will turn down. I can recommend you to a few other editors who would be more than happy to edit you manuscript, though! This is just a personal preference.
*For now, my preferred mode of payment is a physical check. I'm in the process of researching, setting up, and budgeting other modes of payment such as Paypal, but for now, this is what is preferred. I'll keep you updated on any changes. :)
*A 50% downpayment is due the day I start working on your piece. For a speedy start, mail it as soon as you mail me the signed contract. The last 50% should be mailed the day you receive your completed, edited manuscript. I can be flexible with this, as I understand snail mail is a pain.
*Your manuscript will be sent to me in a word document format, double spaced, Times New Roman font, without any page breaks, table of contents, or page formatting. Sounds like your turning in a college paper, right? Yes, but It makes my life easier, and for those of you wanting to traditionally publish, this is how most literary agents and publishing houses prefer their manuscripts to arrive. Plain & simple.
*The rates listed above apply to one pass or read-through of your piece. If your work needs more edits after take 1, an additional fee will be negotiated. In addition, a separate fee will be negotiated if you rewrite and want me to take another look.
